I had a meeting yesterday with my Boss about what will happen now that the other gardener has been given the sack. I had said to him that I wouldn't mind working on my own for more hours as I am only part-time. I wasn't really sure he liked the idea until today when he agreed that it would be better than trying to get someone else in for just two days (the two I don't work).
We had a good discussion about some minor problems from last year, namely having to weed all the huge patios. I can now weedkill these out of hours which will I am sure help immensely. I also asked a very cheeky question, but all the same deserved I think after the year I've had, can I have another pay rise. To my astonishment he said that this would be taken into consideration too. Just awaiting formal confirmation about it all, but I have to say I feel excited and already raring to go for this year!
This week at work I have been busily going around the place trimming over decidous Berberis to keep their shape and keep them under control. I still have a great many to do as you can well imagine.
I've planted up some Snowdrops as I couldn't believe we didn't have any, I've some more hopefully coming. Can't wait for next year! I have also planted up some Thyme (Vulgaris and Silver Posie) and Rosemary in the herb garden. This has been a personal pet project of mine to get this really going and I'm feeling quite excited about it. Just hope the Kitchen Staff like it too. I plan to sow Basil, Parsley, and Dill.
There is a sense of Spring is on its way for me at the moment. Daffodils about to flower, the smaller types already have, Crocus are out and trees are starting to bud or even come out into leaf. All exciting but also a sense of urgency to get on with things.
At Home I've just filled up my nursery seedbed with compost. In the dark I've sown Parsnip in toilet rolls and Chilli Peppers in pots. Its starting! Get ready for mayhem!!
